The Bishop of the Sekondi Diocese of the Methodist Church of Ghana Rt. Rev. Daniel De-Graft Brace has knockout at President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his government for overtaxing Ghanaians. He said, the government has almost failed to honor the so-many promises made to the people of Ghana and all the electorate in his search for political power at the time.
He explained for instance, during the campaign period ahead of the 2016 General Elections, the then Candidate, Akufo-Addo criticized the Mahama led-administration for bad and corrupt leadership, which had resulted in the accumulation of mass hardship on Ghanaians.
“When the President was campaigning in 2016, I was in Abosso. He came there and his words were that, there is money in this country, but because we don’t have the right people governing the country, it has resulted in brazen hardship. So many taxes have been heaped on us. So, I in particular agreed with him that, this country is endowed and that, if we get our acts right, things will be okay.” He added.
Rt. Rev. De-Graft Brace made these comments at the just-ended 60th Annual ‘Synod of the Church’ at Dixcove in the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western Region. The event was under the theme: “Discipleship: Teaching Everyone to live Like Jesus Christ: The Role of the Holy Spirit.”
“So far, nothing significant has changed since President Akufo-Addo ascended the Presidency, rather new taxes has been introduced and causing more hardships”. He spoke.
He, therefore, called on President Akufo-Addo to demonstrate real leadership and direction to give hope to the good people of Ghana. He concluded.
